Management Team

Stacy W. Hastie,
Chairman and CEO

Stacy Hastie has 18 years of experience in the environmental industry. Mr. Hastie joined EOI in 1992 as the in-house industrial hygiene and safety manager. Six years later he was part of an investor group that purchased a majority interest in the company from its founder and, in 2002, Hastie bought out the other members of the group and assumed control of EOI.

Under his leadership as Chairman and CEO, EOI has experienced significant growth. Since 2002, staff count has more than doubled—from 60 in 2002 to more than 140 full-time employees today. Revenues have soared to more than $30 million in sales in 2005. The company recently relocated to its new, state-of-the-art headquarters in downtown St. Louis.

Mr. Hastie’s expertise includes the strategic use of risk transfer tools—among them the purchase of environmental insurance to cap project-related environmental cleanup costs and transfer environmental liability to facilitate complex property transactions.

Born and raised in Cave-in-rock, Ill., Mr. Hastie attended college at Murray State University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1990 and his master’s in occupational safety and health, with an emphasis in industrial hygiene and environmental studies, in 1992.

Matthew D. Robinson
Founding Partner and President

As a founding partner of EOI in 1986, Matt Robinson’s original responsibilities included the identification and management of environmental concerns noted during the acquisition or ownership of property. And his experience in this background continues today as Matt focuses on assisting private developers, financial institutions and public agencies in identifying and resolving environmental concerns that arise during the transfer or development of challenging properties.

From former aluminum smelters and transformer manufacturing plants to blighted residential neighborhoods and corner gas stations, Robinson has assessed or managed the remediation of more than 3,000 such sites, including three projects that received Phoenix Awards, a national recognition for exemplary Brownfield redevelopment.

Matt received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Tulane University.

Vice President of Consulting and Technical Services

Bill Witts leads EOI’s efforts in compliance and site remediation services for the electric and gas utility industries. He is also involved in Brownfield redevelopment, demolition, abatement, site assessment and remediation projects for EOI. EOI’s staff of environmental technicians and geologists report to Bill and he is responsible for the hiring, training, development and utilization of technical personnel.

Prior to joining EOI, Witts worked for 18 years in the electric utility industry working in various environmental compliance related fields, including former manufactured gas plant investigations and cleanups, solid waste management, groundwater and surface water sampling and analysis, and compliance auditing. Mr. Witts is an active member of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers and the Gateway Society of Hazardous Materials Managers.

Bill received his bachelor’s degrees in zoology and chemistry from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and his master’s degree in business administration from Webster University in St. Louis.
