Geotechnical Engineer

Environmental Operations, Inc. (EOI) is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and ambitious Geotechnical Engineer to manage the operations or our Peoria area practice.  The successful candidate will perform the tasks of a licensed professional geotechnical engineer for a variety of clients and projects and will be responsible for business development in the Central Illinois region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:

  1. Serves as EOI’s primary business development professional in the Peoria and Central Illinois region, by identifying and developing business opportunities with current and new clients.
  2. Prepares scope of work, budgets, and proposals for geotechnical, laboratory, and construction material testing services.
  3. Cross-sells EOI’s environmental, health and safety services with the support of EOI’s Director of Business Development.
  4. Develops geotechnical investigation and laboratory testing programs, assess field and laboratory test results, and develops appropriate engineering properties for encountered conditions at each project site.
  5. Prepares geotechnical reports and recommendations for use in the design and construction of geotechnical-related aspects of a project.  Report recommendations may include items applicable shallow and deep foundation systems, retaining walls, settlement analysis, temporary earth retention systems, earth embankments, seismic analysis, roadway subgrades, dewatering, global stability analysis, ground improvement applications, pavement design, earthwork procedures, and construction material oversight.
  6. Presents project deliverables to clients, attends project meetings, and makes presentations to potential clients.
  7. Prepares invoices for provided services and reviews/approves subcontractor invoices.
  8. Serves as liaison with professional contacts, including maintaining client and subcontractor relationships and developing new business opportunities.
  9. Oversees the operation and maintenance of EOI’s Peoria geotechnical laboratory and construction materials testing technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Professional Engineer license in Illinois.
  2. At least fifteen (15) years experience in geotechnical engineering or related field.
  3. Masters degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
  4. Experience, skills, and desire to perform business development tasks required to support the Peoria laboratory and office.
  5. Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  6. Extensive knowledge and expertise in sampling and laboratory protocols and methods, and appropriate application of those protocols and methods.
  7. Knowledge of uses and limitations of sampling and monitoring equipment and test results.
  8. Computer skills, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet applications, slope stability modeling, LPILE, gINT, and other geotechnical software programs.

Program Manager – Industrial Hygiene and Safety

Environmental Operations, Inc. (EOI) is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and ambitious individual to serve as Corporate Safety Program Manager and to assist in the development of our Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IHS) Consulting Programs.

The IHS Program Manager will focus on two main functions:

  • Management, development and implementation of the EOI Corporate Safety Program to protect the health and safety of EOI employees and contractors
  • Provide IHS consulting services to outside clients

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Continues the development and improvement of the EOI Corporate Safety Program
  2. Implements and enforces the EOI Corporate Safety Program through aggressive on-site safety inspections, employee training, and discipline
  3. Identifies applicable OSHA rules and regulatory requirements and makes appropriate recommendations to project and senior management
  4. Provides IHS consulting services to outside clients
  5. Takes an active role in support of business development efforts
  6. Serves as internal technical resource for OSHA compliance and employee safety

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides professional development guidance and coaching to IHS staff
  2. Interfaces with OSHA or EPA regulators on behalf of the company and/or clients
  3. Oversees EOI worker compensation cases

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Undergraduate degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, engineering, chemistry, biology or related field
  2. Minimum of 5 years experience in the IHS compliance and/or consulting fields
  3. CIH, P.E., CSP or Asbestos Project Designer certifications or advanced degree in an IHS-related field
  4. Working knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations
  5. Effective analytic, written, and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Highly motivated, confident, and ambitious, with a commitment to quality
  7. Willingness and ability to travel

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Work experience in asbestos and lead consulting and abatement
  2. Experience in construction-related safety programs including fall protection, respiratory protection, hazard communication, and job safety analysis
